Background
- Toxic chemicals
- Current policy flaws

The majority of the products we use throughout our day, are virtually untested for their effects on our health and environment. Many of these products contain or release toxic substances that are turning up in places they don't belong: our bodies. Many accumulate in our bodies over our lifetimes; some can have a devastating effect on rapidly developing babies and young children. Our exposure to these toxic substances is involuntary and, right now, inescapable. We have to stop using some toxic substances, develop new processes and substances that prevent harm, and protect future generations by making a transition to safe products and production.
Where are these toxic substances found? In most of our daily products, including: shampoo, cosmetics, children's toys and teething rings, cleaning products, pesticides, moisturizers, plastics and more.
Current state and federal policies are failing to protect us in four different ways:
#1 Most chemicals are not required to be adequately tested for safety before use.
#2 The government usually takes action only after harm is proven and widespread
#3 Certain levels of harm are accepted and allowed by government authorities
#4 Power special interests obstruct government action to protect our health.
